Although it is not a necessity in Hong Kong to have your cat microchipped, all cats adopted through Hong Kong Cats will be microchipped, and he advice that you also have this done if you get your cat from somewhere else.
Reasons to Microchip
- If you cat gets lost and is picked up, people can identify that it has an owner.
- If Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) pick up your cat, then they’ll be able to trace the chip back to the clinic that the microchip was purchased. If they do not trace the chip, then they’ll at least keep it for a longer period.
- If you were to leave Hong Kong, you cat will be required to have a microchip, however this may be an ISO chip (internationally recognised), so you may wish to get this microchip instead.
- If your female cat is lost and picked up, it’s also a sign that she’s more and likely been desexed already. This will avoid opening her up again unnecessarily.
